Employees can continue to do their best and even grow professionally while work from home . Do we need to put these work aspirations and goals on hold until we are done, or should we accept this as the new normal? When you’re not sitting at a regular desk but just a tiny frame in a video conference, how do you make sure you’re still part of the team and don’t get lost in the shuffle?
Stay Active during work from home
In our conversations with Silke about team management, we learned that many of the things that happen in the office don’t apply to working from home. However, these situations and conversations are providing us with a never-ending stream of new ideas! But now we no longer sit in a room and eavesdrop on what our colleagues are doing; nor can we stand in front of the coffee machine brainstorming future projects.
With the epidemic raging, the key to work today is how to keep yourself active! Instead, we recommend that you hold spontaneous meetings, reach out to your colleagues, and offer to help, especially if your skills are in greater demand than ever. For example, do you know a lot about the technical aspects of working from home and can help set up office infrastructure at the same time? If so, reach out to your colleagues and let them know you are always there to offer advice and support. This is more likely to lead to opportunities for promotion.
Build systematic work during work from home
During these times. Helping others and staying connected with them is most important. But don’t forget about your personal projects! If you haven’t had to plan much in the past and have tended to follow your company’s work system, you may be tempted to try bringing this common approach home.
However, it may be helpful for your work to map out a new structure yourself. This ranges from scheduling personal breaks to trial management tools. Once you find a new work system that works for you, take time to try to plan your day and ask coworkers for help or offer to help them. Never forget the importance of numbers! Your manager can’t see what you’re doing, so through actual results and numbers, you keep them informed and demonstrate your ability to do your job.
Find the right communication channel
Our social skills change when working remotely. Since virtual communication takes a completely different form than physical communication, employees who are not easily tied to the office environment may be better at building networks online; conversely, leading employees in the office may have difficulty doing so when working from home.
Understand your personal characteristics and try to give new communication methods a chance. And beyond that, some introverted employees especially enjoy the opportunity to work quietly from home. If you fall into this category, you can contribute to your company’s success while others are still struggling with new communication channels. Then this will be a time full of value!
Stay Healthy during work from home
Make sure you don’t overlook the importance of taking care of yourself. Yes, the outside world has higher and higher demands on us. Although we can simulate an office situation through remote desktop tools, cloud software and video chat, it can still be very difficult to stay connected when everyone is working from different locations. Still, you shouldn’t underestimate the changes that working from home will bring. Are you feeling exhausted and isolated? Don’t ignore the signals your body is giving you, and deal with these emotions well. Additionally, encourage yourself to have private conversations with colleagues or organize your team to participate in a virtual happy hour. You have to remember that normal office socializing is just as important as doing your job well.
Whether it’s a transition period or a new normal, learning how to work from home is the right move. No matter what happens with the pandemic, no matter which state we work in, we need to stay connected to each other. AnyDesk can help you.
